MY LIFE on January 18, 2012

As an artist, I’ve used the internet for gathering tons of reference material and information for the production of my work, and for sharing my work with people outside of my local community. While SOPA and PIPA would protect many creative individuals and their work from copyright infringment, not having the freedom to share this work (in ways that the internet provides) would dramatically change the way that the work is viewed/valued/approached. Personally, I think the culture has grown accustomed to the internet and internet use- my project definitely benefits from the powers of the internet. I also believe that many places on the internet have become in a sense legitimized institutions for looking at art, or a form of.
I’m not advocating a certain way to feel about either bill, I think it’s important to just be aware of it all. Be aware not only of what what Congress is trying to take away, but also of what you already have. The internet has been an amazing resource for everyone. If you are an artist opposed to SOPA and PIPA, there’s a letter specifically for creatives that you can send to congress here.
